Abraham sending Eliezer to get a bride for Isaac, he asks for a sign. Rebecca agrees to go, and he marries her. The individual call of God – the master has come and is calling for you. Laban tried to delay, but Rachel wanted to go. It is a picture of the meeting of Christ with our souls. He is at the end of our journey and we are His bride. Rebekah had to leave all she knew and all her ways. Following Christ means we accept His values and standards, and His country. What stops us part way, before we actually meet Him? Excuses like in the parable of the wedding feast, or if you try to follow but have run into the desert, will you still follow on? Union with Christ and the mystic deeps are at the end and centre of our call. He loves us. There are spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms for us now.

Light shine out of darkness – joy of salvation – Christ is the true light and sets many free – an artist to show the light would paint all else dark around – we have to keep our eye single, full of His light – be ruthless with sin, better to be maimed physically than spiritually – Jordan overflows all its banks in time of harvest, in time of reaping of souls, in looking for the deep currents of God – keep the inner vision.

A commitment & purchasing the field, a certain level of commitment, Christian, filled with the spirit and walking with God, keeping busy and not taking time to see if they are really satisfied, and thinking that this is all there is – you have not found the treasure – the pearl of greatest price. There must be greater commitment to dig and graft – give everything. Sold everything he owned that he might buy the field. You sell yourself, your hopes and ambitions. Would you find the presence of God the way you ought to, if you lost all Christian contact and support. You prayer life is your relationship with God. Is there enough desire and interest in God to pray until He meets our needs? Are you just a passenger on the bus? Will you inconvenience yourself enough to seek the glory of God?
